So I recently took a trip to Ulta to purchase two of the items on my makeup wishlist!! They were the Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette, and Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette. I can honestly say that these are my two favorite palettes of all time right now!
I’ve been experimenting with some looks lately and when I had put a pic up on IG of the Modern Renaissance look, I got some pretty good feedback and figured I could give a basic tutorial on how I got the look. So if you’re interested, keep reading!
For moisturizer, I used just a drugstore product, Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer with sunscreen. This honestly isn’t a bad moisturizer. It does have the consistency of a sunscreen, a little more wet and very thin. So if you don’t like that and you’d rather have something a little thicker and creamier on your face, I wouldn’t recommend getting it. But it’s what I used for this look!
For Primer I used the Elf Mineral Infused Face Primer. I was honestly really impressed with this product. And it definitely worked for this look, keeping my skin nice and even, with a smoothness. I normally have some red spots here and there from my skin being so sensitive and my pores are very noticeable after moisturizing. So this product did a great job minimizing my pores and completely taking away any redness so I had a nice base to work with 😊
So I jumped on the bandwagon a while ago and bought the Fit Me Foundation by Maybelline. This foundation is like a miracle worker for me. I’ve tried so many other drugstore foundations and they either leave streaks, get patchy on my skin, feel sticky when applied, don’t cover enough or cover too much where it’s way too noticeable for an every day look. Without the right foundation, I feel like the rest of the makeup just won’t fit together well. So I always feel safe using this one, knowing it will always work the way I need it to. Also, I always use a damp beauty blender to put my foundation on. I’ve tried brushes and they just streak too much for my liking. But use whatever suits you best!
Now I don’t usually use concealer because I don’t get many blemishes unless it’s around a certain time of the month 🙄 So I don’t really invest much into them. Therefore, I went with the Elf Concealer. All I did with this was put it under my eyes to get rid of any dark circles or puffiness and soften up that area. And if I had any small blemishes, dabbed a bit on there and blended with my beauty blender.
For powder I used Covergirl Outlast All Day. This powder did a really nice job giving my skin a Matte look, taking away most of the shine from my face. It does last a very long time, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say ALL DAY. But it definitely contributed to the smoothness of this look..so there it is.
For contouring I used the Wet N Wild MegaGlo Contouring Palette. This did a nice job because the bronzer in this Palette comes out pretty dark. And I wanted a defined look for my face. So I applied it under my cheek bones, forehead, sides of my nose and under my chin with a contour bronzer brush (I’m not sure which brand 🤔 but if you’re curious, leave a comment and I’ll find out and let you know!) you just need to make sure that you blend this is very well, since like I said it’s not exactly subtle..
For blush I used NYX Bright Idea Illuminating Stick in Pinkie Dust. This is actually meant to be a highlighter, but I bought it in a pinkish shade to try it out as a shimmery blush. It definitely leaves a good amount of shimmer but the pink is pretty subtle. But honestly I like when a blush isn’t too too noticeable. Especially because I wanted a warmer, more Fallish look so I felt that a more vibrant blush might take away from that. I could be wrong and maybe I’ll try it differently next time, but that’s what I did for this.
The highlight I used for this was PixiBeauty Blush Duo in Peach Honey. I am addicted to the highlight right now. I actually got it as a sample in one of my subscription boxes this month and I’ve been using it almost every day since! Your face will GLOW with this on it but not overly so it still okay for an everyday look. I don’t think the camera really did it justice but I’m telling you, it works super well!
I used NYX eyeshadow base in skin tone to prime my eyes. This stuff is like a miracle. I’ve been using concealer for my eyelids for quite some time now and when I switch over to this Primer, there was a huge noticeable difference in the way my shadows went on and stayed there. It has sort of a stick feel to it when it’s on, but it not only keeps your eyeshadow on there all day even if you touch your eye by accident or something. But the colors come out so much more vibrant and just beautiful! I don’t think I’ll be using any other eye primers for a while honestly. This is what made the colors in this look pop so much.
I was inspired to do this look by a few different youtubers. They all had different ways they used this Palette, so I used those for inspiration and put this one together. I’ve taken swatches of all the colors I used for this look. They’re not all in order, (cause I was totally distracted when I swatched them 🙄 but hopefully with the description of where they go, you guys can play with it on your own and figure something out! Also, if you want a video tutorial of this, I will work on one as soon as my room is set up for it. Let me know in the comments!
Covergirl Intensify Me Intense Black liquid Liner. I used this to tight line and put a small line on my upper lash line with a slight wing.
Wet N Wild pencil liner in “You’re always white!”. I put this white liner on my bottom water line, and it really made my eyes pop more.
For mascara, I used Maybelline Lash Sensational Masacra. And then, I applied Ardell Whispie falsies. I really wanted my eye lashes fuller and thicker for this. I hated trying to get them on, I’m not really a False Lash kinda girl, but I gave it a shot and I’m actually pretty happy with the results. But you don’t have to use these. I’m sure it’ll come out just as beautiful with just mascara.
For lips I used Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick in Driver’s Seat. I was told this look might look better with a darker color and I do actually agree. I was just really excited to try this lipstick because I just got it that day haha. But when I look at the pic now, I can def see how a dark lip would suit the look better. So just try a few different shades and see what fits you best!
I loved doing this look. Especially because I love all things Fall, in case you couldn’t tell from my Instagram 🙄 so even getting this Palette made my heart super happy 😁 Let me know what you guys thought of it in the comments! And if you want me to start doing video tutorials of looks!
Thanks for stopping by 😁 Hope you have a great day lovies 💕
